Where it all began

Vax was founded in 1977 by British entrepreneur, Alan Brazier, in his home town of Droitwich, Worcestershire. After winning a contract to clean Newport Pagnell service station he soon realised that the carpet cleaning equipment available - boiling water and a board to scrape off the grease - needed improvement. So he set to work on his first prototype. The forerunner to Vax's iconic orange tub, it was made with a water heater, a shower pump and a milk churn.

After some time spent honing his design, he created a unique three-in-one machine that could wash, suck up spills, and vacuum carpets. He patented his invention and decided to manufacture it himself. The Vax 101 was truly innovative for its time and became the best-selling vacuum cleaner in the UK in less than 8 years.

A global market leader

After cleaning up the UK market, Vax started to take its business overseas. By 1995 you could buy a Vax in nearly 50 different countries worldwide. In 1999 Vax became part of the TTI group, a global market and innovation leader in power tools, floorcare, laser and electronic products.

TTI and its resources helped Vax to rapidly extend its scope. While production moved overseas, Vax's design and engineering team remained in the Midlands, developing new technologies and making continual improvements. Over the years the Vax range expanded to include upright carpet washers, multi-cyclonic bagless vacuum cleaners, steam cleaners, handhelds, air purifiers and much more besides.

Innovating cordless technology

Building on its popular Air range of lightweight vacuums, in 2014 Vax launched the Air Cordless. A full-sized cordless vacuum that was powerful enough to clean your whole home for 50 minutes, the Air Cordless provided the base for a cord-free revolution in floorcare.

With demand for cordless vacuums rising rapidly, Vax set about developing a new generation of cord-free machines designed to meet evolving consumer needs. Four decades after it first innovated the floorcare market, Vax launched the Vax Blade. Combining the power of a corded vacuum with the convenience of a cordless, it transformed the way we clean our homes.

We are Vax

Our identity

1977 2017

Our mission

Our success has been driven by a belief in listening to our customers. They've told us they want cleaning to fit in with their busy life schedules, not have their life scheduled around their cleaning. That's why we're constantly updating and introducing new technologies, all with the consumer in mind. As experts in floorcare for over forty years, we've never stopped striving to make cleaning quicker, easier and more effortless.

Our future

Vax has grown from a company selling one ground-breaking product to a market leader offering the widest range of floorcare in the industry. The most searched for term on Google in floorcare is cordless, so developing new cord-free technologies is top of our agenda for the future. And our heritage in carpet washing has enabled us to pioneer the next generation of quick cleaning, fast drying carpet cleaners too. Whether deep cleaning or getting rid of the occasional mess, Vax always has the right tool for the job.
